Thesis project
My research goals revolve around understanding the signaling events that lead to the differentiation of the endocrine pancreas and more specifically, the insulin producing cells. Towards this end, I utilize the developmental model organism zebrafish and human and mouse embryonic stem cells to gain insight in the molecular details of the pathways under study. The ultimate goal is to mimic the evolving embryonic environment in vitro in order to instruct embryonic stem cells to differentiate towards fully functional pancreatic beta cells. |
