Research Interests

Dr. Kinzler's laboratory has focused on the biology and genetics of cancer.  They have identified a variety of genetic mutations that underlie cancer including mutations of the APC pathway which appear to initiate the great majority of colorectal cancers.  They have also advanced our understanding of the biology of cancer.  In one case, they studied the blood vessels required for tumor growth.  Using powerful approaches for gene expression analyses, they have identified distinct molecular differences between blood vessels in normal versus tumor tissue. The identification of genetic and other molecular differences between normal and tumor tissues like those described above provide new therapeutic targets, new opportunities for the early diagnosis of cancer, and important insights into the neoplastic process.
